Windows 8: Move programs to the taskbar
In Windows 8, you can move frequently used programs to the taskbar for quick access. We'll show you how.
Move programs from the start screen to the taskbar
When you start your computer, you usually end up on the Windows 8 start screen with your apps. Otherwise you can use the key combination [Win] + [Q] to display all installed apps. From here you can easily move any program to the taskbar.
- Right click on the program you want to copy to the taskbar.
- Select the "Pin to taskbar" option.
Move programs from Explorer to the taskbar
If you prefer to act in a conventional way in Windows Explorer, do the following:
- Navigate to the file or program you want in the taskbar and simply drag and drop it into the quick start area of your taskbar.
- If necessary, right-click on the taskbar and deactivate the "Fix taskbar" option to enlarge the quick start area of your taskbar and make all programs visible.
Many programs offer a quick start link during installation. If you select this option, the program is also in the task bar after installation. You can find further suggestions for making Windows 8 clearer in this practical tip.
