Windows 8: Add programs to autostart
Here we tell you how to add programs to the autostart in Windows 8.
Quick access to the autostart folder
The fastest way to reach the autostart folder is via the Windows Run dialog:
- Press the key combination [Windows] + [R] to open the Run dialog.
- Enter "shell: startup" (without the quotes). The autostart folder opens in Windows Explorer.
- If you drag a program shortcut into the folder, the corresponding program will be executed automatically the next time the system is restarted. If you need help creating shortcuts, this guide will help you.
The autostart folder on the hard drive
You can also open the Autostart folder manually. This is located in the user directory: User / (user name) / AppData / Roaming / Microsoft / Windows / Start menu / Programs / Autostart. If the "AppData" directory is not displayed, you must first show the hidden system folders. You can read about how this works here.
Start Windows 8 without login
To start your computer faster, you can switch off the login. In this video we show you how this works under Windows 8.
In another practical tip, we explain how to find the Windows 8 Autostart Manager.
