Windows 8: Activate hibernation
The developers of Microsoft have hidden the hibernation well in Windows 8 and 8.1. We'll show you where to find it.
Manage hibernation in Windows 8 power options
To put Windows 8 to sleep, you must first activate the function in the power options.
- Use the key combination Windows + X to open the quick start bar and select the power options.
- On the left you can choose what to do when you press the power button. With a click on the button you land in the system settings.
- If you cannot check the box, you will find the solution to the problem in the next section.
Activate hibernation in the energy options
At the bottom of the system settings, you can activate hibernation for Windows 8 and 8.1.
- If the area is inactive, you have to click on the note "Some settings are currently not available".
- Now you can select hibernation and add it to your energy saving plan.
Put the device to sleep
To put your device to sleep, open the Charm Bar with the key combination Windows + I. In the "On / Off" menu, the item "Idle state" now appears.
