Windows 8: Change startup sound
If the start sound of Windows 8 is too boring for you, you can simply change it. We show you how to do this.
Windows 8: Preparing to change the startup sound
Since Windows does not allow the sound to be changed directly, the function must first be activated in the system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up the Windows registry.
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "regedit" here and confirm with "OK". Then the registry editor opens.
- Now open the following path in the navigation bar on the left: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER / AppEvents / EventLabels"
- The four folders "WindowsLogoff", "WindowsLogon", "WindowsUnlock" and "Systemexit" are located here.
- If you select one of these folders, you will see the "ExcludeFromCPL" key on the right.
- If you select the key with a double click, a small window opens. Change the value from 0 to 1 and confirm with "OK".
- Do this step for all four folders. Then follow the instructions in the next paragraph.
Windows 8: Change startup sound

- A context menu now opens, in which you select the "Adjust" item at the bottom.
- In the new window, click on the "Sounds" category at the bottom right.
- At the bottom of the list is the entry "Windows login". Select it with one click and click the "Browse" button.
- You can now insert the new sound. However, this must be a WAV file.
