Windows 8: enlarge system partition - how it works
If there is not enough space for your existing Windows 8 partition, simply enlarge the system partition. We explain how this works in this practical tip.
Enlarge partition - so go ahead
First of all: A data carrier can only be expanded if there is "unallocated space" directly behind the partition to be enlarged - that is, free space. You should also always back up your data before making changes to your system partitions.
- Download the EaseUS Partition Master and open the program. Then click on "Partition Manager".
- The middle display now shows the order of the partitions. In the case shown in the picture, there is free space after the Windows 8 partition. An enlargement is possible.
- Right click on the partition and select "Resize / Move partiton".
- Now click next to "Partition Size" and the storage value on the up arrow. The partition size increases while the "Unallocated Space After" becomes smaller.
- Confirm with "OK" and carry out the operation in EaseUS with "Apply".
No free space after system partition?
If there is no free space left after your system partition, but there are other defined partitions, for example, go to the partition after which there was still free space.
- Right click on the partition and select "Resize / Move partition".
- For "Unallocated Space After" click on the down arrow until your "Unallocated Space Before" contains the amount of space by which you want to enlarge your other partition.
- Confirm with "OK" and carry out the operation with "Apply".
- Do this until the "Unallocated Space" is directly behind your partition to be enlarged. If so, you can enlarge the partition as described in the previous section.
