Windows 8 and 8.1: Permanently deactivate the on-screen keyboard
The on-screen keyboard may appear under Windows 8 and 8.1, but you can permanently deactivate it. We'll show you how it's done.
Disable the on-screen keyboard in Windows 8 and 8.1
The on-screen keyboard is only really useful on tablets or for inserting smileys. If it remains unused, it only disturbs the taskbar.
- Right-click on the taskbar so that the context menu opens.
- Move the mouse over the "Toolbars" item and then click on "On-screen keyboard".
- If the keyboard reappears during a restart, the keyboard must be deactivated completely. To do this, simultaneously press the "Windows" and "W" keys so that the search opens on the right.
- Enter "Center" there and select the search result "Center for easier operation". A new window is opening up.
- Scroll down and click "Use a computer without a mouse or keyboard".
- Remove the checkmark in front of the option "Use on-screen keyboard" and click on "OK".
