Windows 8: updates failed - what to do?
If the installation of the updates failed under Windows 8, this can have several reasons. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Windows 8: Tool helps with failed updates
If the problem is with Windows itself, you can fix it using the troubleshooter:
- Open the following Microsoft website and click on the "Run Now" button in the top right corner.
- A small diagnostic tool for Windows is then downloaded. Then start it.
- Click the "Next" button and Windows will look for problems with your update and repair them yourself.
- You will then receive a report as to whether the problem has been identified and resolved.
Windows 8 update failed: other causes
- Restart: As simple as it sounds, a restart and a second try can often work wonders.
- Internet connection and storage space: In order for the updates to be saved, you need a stable Internet connection with no dropouts. There must also be enough storage space.
- Programs: Switch off all programs that are not required in the background. Above all, tuning tools or anti-virus programs can hinder the updates. For security reasons, you should only temporarily deactivate anti-virus programs.
- Install updates individually: First try installing only one update and not all at once.
- NET Framework: Always install the latest version of the Microsoft .NET Framework so that the updates are installed properly.
- Upgrade error: If the error occurs while updating Windows 8 to version 8.1, a patch can bring the solution. You can find the patch and other information in our special update article.
- Other solutions: If a specific error occurs, the solution is also somewhat more special. You can find a solution to every error message on the following Microsoft website.
