Windows 8: Pin the website as a tile

In addition to programs, you can also pin websites as a tile or link in the Windows 8 Start menu. However, the latter is only a detour. With a little trick, the tiling thing can be done quickly.
Attach the website tile to the Windows 8 start menu
In Windows 8, you usually pin files or programs with a right click and then with "Pin to Start". For files with the extension .URL, i.e. an internet link, this entry is hidden in the context menu. Follow the steps below to attach the link as a tile to the start menu.
- Open the following link via Windows Explorer: C: \ Users \% USERNAME% \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Start Menu
- Right-click in a free area, select "New" from the context menu and then "Link".
- Enter the desired website in the new window and click "Next". For example: "www.google.de"
- In the next step, give the shortcut a name. Ideally, that of the website itself, ie "Google".
- Then switch to the start menu with the WINDOWS button.
- Right-click again in a free area and select "All apps" in the lower right corner. You should now be able to see your newly created shortcut on the left, between all the Windows 8 apps (see picture).
- Right-click your shortcut and choose "Pin to Start" in the lower left corner.
Edit icons of the created website tile
It can happen that the tiles of Windows 8 simply have the icon of the standard browser as an icon. If you would prefer the icon corresponding to the website, you can do this as follows:
- Find a suitable picture on the Internet.
- Go back to the folder "C: \ Users \% USERNAME% \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Start Menu" and right-click on a shortcut.
- Select the "Properties" item in the context menu.
- Under the "Web Document" tab, click "Other Icon".
- Click on "Search" in the new window and select your desired icon.
- Finally, confirm twice with "Ok".
Please make sure that the icons have the file extension .ICO. You can convert your images into an icon using the following link: Icon Converter
