Windows 8: Disable Windows Defender
If you have installed an anti-virus program under Windows 8, you should deactivate Windows Defender, as the two programs can interfere with each other. We'll show you how it's done.
Turn off Windows Defender on Windows 8 or 8.1
- Press the "Windows" and "W" keys on your keyboard at the same time, so that the search opens on the right.
- If you enter "Defender" there, Windows Defender appears as the top search result.
- Once you've opened it, go to the "Settings" tab in the top right.
- On the left side of the menu bar you will find the item "Administrator".
- Remove the checkmark in front of the item "Activate Windows Defender", click on the "Save changes" button and confirm the subsequent security question with "Yes".
- The Windows Defender is now closed and completely switched off. Alternatively, you can deactivate only the active protection module under the menu item "Real-time protection".
