Windows: Safe mode does not work - what to do?
This practical tip shows you what you can do if the safe mode no longer works under Windows.
Safe mode doesn't work: Solutions under Windows
Follow the steps below if Safe Mode stops working on Windows.
- To start the PC in safe mode, you must press the F8 key during the startup process. So make sure you press the right button at the right time.
- Alternatively, this can also be the F5 key. You will find the right button in the manual for your PC.
- If this does not work, you need either the Windows DVD from which you installed the system or the recovery DVD from your computer manufacturer.
- Insert the DVD and then boot from it. This should happen automatically.
- If this is not the case, you have to change the boot order in the BIOS.
- After the PC has started from the DVD, click on "Computer Repair".
- Now you have the option to reset the PC to an earlier point in time. All files are retained. However, you may have to reinstall programs.
