- Open the start menu and type "regedit" in the search bar. Confirm with [Enter].
- The registry editor opens. Open the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ ProfileList".
- Then search for the entry that begins with "S-1-5" and contains a long sequence of numbers.
- If there are two folders with the same sequence of numbers, you must rename them. To do this, right-click on the entry and select "Rename".
- If there is an entry with ".bak" at the end, remove this addition. You must add this addition to the other entry.
- If there is only one entry, right-click on it and select "Rename". Remove the addition ".bak" here.
