Install Windows over a network - how it works
You can also easily install Windows over a network. Find out exactly how this works in this practical tip.
Install Windows over the network - so it'll work
- Start by assigning your PC a fixed IP address.
- You then need the Windows Automated Installation Kit.
- Start this as administrator (right click> Run as administrator) and enter "copype x86 c: \ work" there. Confirm with [Enter].
- Then enter "imagex / mountrw c: \ work \ winpe.wim 1 c: \ work \ mount" and copy all files (no folders) from the directory "C: \ Work \ mount \ Windows \ Boot \ PXE" to "C: \ PXE \ Boot".
- When you're done, type "imagex / unmount c: \ work \ mount". Now you have to copy the files "wdsnbp.com, bootmgr.exe and pxeboot.n12" from "C: \ PXE \ Boot" into the folder "C: \ PXE". Then rename the "wdsnbp.com" file to "wdsnbp.0".
- Now copy "C: \ Work \ winpe.wim" to "C: \ PXE \ sources" and then name the file "Boot.wim". For the further course you need the freeware TFTPD32.
Install Windows over a network - continued
- Now open TFTPD32 and first click on "Settings"> "General". Here you deselect all other services apart from the TFTPD32 and DHCP servers.
- Now enter the folder "C: \ PXE" in the program under "Base Directory" and check the box next to "Allow '\' As virtual root". ".
- Create another folder in the "C: \ PXE" folder. In this example we call it "Chip". Now open the Windows command prompt as administrator and enter "net localgroup user / delete installer".
- Now you have to right click on the Chip folder and select "Properties". In the "Release" tab you have to add the user "Installer".
- You must also add this under "Security"> "Advanced"> "Change permissions"> "Add"> "Advanced". You can do this by searching for "Installer" under "Find Now" and then adding the user. Grant the user only read rights.
- Now create a "Windows" folder in the "Chip" folder and insert the files of the installation DVD here. Now start PXE and enter "net use v: \ 192.168.99.2 \ release / u: installer password" in the input field.
- Finally, start the setup of Windows 7 with the command "v: \ win7 \ setup.exe".
