If you want to install a new program, you will usually be asked for the Windows operating system. We show you how to find out in this tip.
How to find out your Windows operating system
- Open the "Control Panel" by clicking the Windows button (formerly "Start") and then entering "Control Panel". Then open the displayed hit.
- Next you have to select "System and Security" and then "System" to get an overview of your computer properties.
- Alternatively, you can also use the key combination [Windows key] + [Pause]. This also takes you to the basic information of your Windows computer.
- The second menu item "System" already contains the "system type", such as the 64-bit operating system (see picture). For example, earlier in "Windows Edition" read "Windows 10 Home". In this case, it is a PC with Windows 10 Home 64 bit.
This guide applies to Windows 10. For Mac, all you have to do is click the apple in the upper left corner and go to "About This Mac". If you are using Windows XP, click "Start" - "Run", type "winver" and then click the [Enter] key.
