Uninstall Windows Defender - does it work?
If you no longer want to use Windows Defender, uninstalling seems to make sense. We show you whether and how to do it.
Uninstall Windows Defender - only possible to a limited extent
Since Windows Defender is installed as an integral part of Windows, you cannot uninstall it completely. However, you can deactivate the software. So the Defender is no longer used and the annoying updates are missing.
- Open the Control Panel, enter "Defender" in the search above and then start it.
- Once the Defender is open, switch to the "Settings" tab in the top right.
- On the left side of the menu bar you will find the item "Administrator".
- Remove the checkmark in front of the "Activate Windows Defender" option and then click on the "Save changes" button.
- If you confirm the security question with "Yes", the Windows Defender is closed and completely switched off.
