Windows Defender does not work - what to do?
If Windows Defender is no longer working, this is mostly due to anti-virus software. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Windows Defender does not work - it can be because
If you have installed anti-virus software on your computer, Windows Defender is automatically deactivated. This is also generally good so that the two programs do not get in each other's way.
- If you still want to activate the Defender, open the "Maintenance Center" in the "System and Security" category in the Control Panel. Click the "Activate now" button next to Windows Defender.
- If that doesn't work, look for "Defender" in the top right of the Control Panel and open Windows Defender. Use the "Start now" button to activate the program.
Alternatively: Let Windows Defender start automatically
If the above steps did not work, you must first activate the service from Windows Defender. Then carry out the above instructions again.
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "services.msc" here and confirm with "OK". Then all services open.
- Scroll down and locate the Windows Defender service.
- Then right-click on the service and select the "Properties".
- At the bottom left, choose the "Start" button and change the "Start type" to "Automatic".
- Close the window with the "OK" button and then restart Windows.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to deactivate Windows Defender.
