Windows does not recognize Bluetooth device - what to do?
In this practical tip, we will show you what you can do if Windows does not recognize a Bluetooth device.
1. Check whether Bluetooth is switched on
- In Windows 7 go to Control Panel and then to "Bluetooth Devices". In Windows 8, go to "Change PC settings" and "PC and devices" on "Bluetooth".
- Make sure that Bluetooth is switched on. Windows 7 users should also ensure that the "Bluetooth devices can connect to this computer" check box is checked.
2. Remove and reinstall the Bluetooth device
- To do this, look for the device under "Bluetooth devices" or "Bluetooth" and mark it by clicking it once. Then select "Remove".
- Now click on "Add" and make the device discoverable by activating Bluetooth and making it visible. Then check the box "Device is set up and can be recognized". Confirm by clicking on "Next".
- Now select the device and click on "Next". Then follow the further instructions.
3. Other possible problems if Windows does not recognize a Bluetooth device
In addition to the methods presented above, there may be other problems:
- The driver may be faulty or out of date. Check the manufacturer's website or use Windows Update to download the latest drivers.
- Make sure that the device is switched on and that the batteries (if present) have sufficient capacity.
- Check that the Bluetooth device is turned on and visible.
- The device may also be out of range of the PC. Therefore, reduce the distance to your PC a little.
- Try connecting the device to another PC via Bluetooth. If this is successful, your Bluetooth adapter on the PC may be defective and must be replaced. If you cannot establish a connection, the Bluetooth on the device does not work properly.
- If you have further questions or problems, contact the manufacturer of both devices.
