- To activate, click on the Windows logo at the bottom left and then on the small gear to access the settings.
- Then select the "Personalization" category.
- Click here on the "Color" sub-item and scroll further down in the window on the right.
- Here you can now choose "Dark" for "Select standard app mode". The Explorer and other Microsoft apps are then displayed in dark mode.
Activate alternative dark theme
If the Dark Theme of Windows Explorer is a little too dark for you, there is still a practical alternative.
- To do this, download the appropriate mach2 tool (32 or 64 bit) and extract the ZIP file.
- Change to the extracted folder, click on the address bar of the Explorer and enter "cmd.exe". Now the command prompt opens with the path set correctly.
- Now enter the command "mach2 enable 10397285" (without quotation marks), confirm with Return and restart Windows.
- Finally, you can activate the new dark theme in the same way as the classic one.
