When managing files in Windows Explorer, you are always faced with special tasks, such as marking all PNG files or all files edited the day before. You can sort the view according to various criteria and find the files you are looking for as soon as you scroll through them. With filters, however, this is even more convenient and faster.
Windows Explorer - filtering according to various criteria
- Navigate to the relevant folder and change the view to »Details«, so that the files are listed in a table with column headers above.
- Hold the mouse pointer briefly on the required column title, for example "Type", and then click on the arrow to the right of it. The automatic filter menu remains open during the selection.
- For example, activate the »PNG file« option so that the list is immediately reduced to this file format.
- Multiple selections are also possible. You can then combine several of these filters or sort the filtered list according to the next criterion as usual.
- Each active filter is identified by a check mark next to the column title.
- When changing the active folder, all filters are reset.
