The PDF preview in Windows Explorer is deactivated by default. You can activate the useful feature in just a few simple steps, as our practical tip shows.
Activate PDF preview in Windows Explorer
Note: The following instructions only work under Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1. The procedure is no longer possible under Windows 10. You also need Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Simultaneously press the [Windows] + [R] keys to open the "Execute" command.
- Enter "regedit" here and confirm with "OK". Then the registry editor starts.
- In the navigation bar on the left, go to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Wow6432Node \ Classes \ CLSID \ {DC6EFB56-9CFA-464D-8880-44885D7DC193}
- Open the "AppID" key on the right with a double click.
- Change the value from {6d2b5079-2f0b-48dd-ab7f-97cec514d30b} to {534A1E02-D58F-44f0-B58B-36CBED287C7C} and confirm with "OK".
- Close the program and restart your computer.
