In this practical tip, we will show you what Windows error code 43 means and how you can fix it in just a few steps.
How to fix Windows error 43
Error code 43 means that a connected USB device was stopped because it reported an error. The problem is often due to faulty or outdated drivers.
- Before performing the following steps, try restarting your PC. In isolated cases, the error can already be remedied.
- For example, if you connected an external hard drive, the USB cable could also be defective. Definitely try out several devices on different ports, at best with different cables.
- It is not necessarily due to the driver for USB devices. Outdated drivers of other components could also play a role, for example from SATA.
- At best, update the driver of your mainboard first. How this works can be read in another practical tip.
- At the same time, we also recommend a driver update for your USB controller. This controls all access to your USB ports.
Eliminate error 43 via device manager
Many users get a handle on the problem with a trick. Open the device manager and deactivate all USB devices individually via the right-click menu (see image).
- Now restart your computer and reactivate the USB devices.
- Afterwards, the USB ports should be fully functional again.
- If this does not work either, your BIOS could also be responsible for the error. It is best to update this.
