If you get an incomprehensible Windows error message, you can copy it and paste it into Google. This will give you instructions and tips for troubleshooting. We'll show you how to copy the text of the error message - even if it doesn't work the traditional way.
Copy error message under Windows - how it works
To search for solutions to errors on the Internet or with friends, you can copy and save Windows error messages.
- When the error message appears on your computer, first click on the message window.
- Then press the key combination [Ctrl] + [C] to copy the error report.
- Open a writing program such as the editor or Microsoft Word.
- Now press the [Ctrl] + [V] keys to insert the message.
- The title of the error message and the buttons are also displayed as text. You can now mark the actual error message, copy it and use it in Google.
Error message cannot be copied - it works anyway
In some cases, you cannot copy the error message because the text cannot be copied. But there is also a solution for this.
- The free tool Nirsoft SysExporter recognizes error messages and helps to copy the text. Download the Nirsoft SysExporter tool as a ZIP file with the German language package first.
- Right-click on both files one after the other and select "unzip". When unpacking, be sure to unzip both files into the same folder. Otherwise you have to add one file to the other.
- Then start SysExporter and drag the crosshairs to the error message.
- Now you see the text of the error message in the SysExporter and can copy and paste it as described above.
