Windows: Always keep windows in the foreground
Unfortunately, Windows has no function with which you can always keep windows in the foreground. However, you have several options for retrofitting the function. We'll show you how it's done.
Windows: Always keep windows in the foreground
- eXtraButtons: Each window has three buttons under Windows. Minimize / Maximize, Enlarge / Reduce and Close. The small tool eXtraButtons builds in further options, including one to keep windows in the foreground.
- OnTopReplica: With the following program you always keep a copy of the desired window in the foreground. You can only view the image permanently in the foreground. To use the window, you have to change it manually via the taskbar.
- AutoHotkey: A bit more advanced users can also create their own key combination. Install AutoHotkey and create a file with the ".ahk" extension. Write the following command in the script and then execute it with a double click: "^! T :: Winset, Alwaysontop, TOGGLE, A". From now on, the shortcut "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "T" will keep windows in the foreground.
In the next practical tip we will show you how to change individual key commands under Windows.
