Remove Windows Genuine Advantage
Do you want to deactivate the "Windows Genuine Advantage" authentication? It works with the registry and by renaming some files. We show the solution for Win XP and 2000.
This is how the sniffing tool works
If you not only get updates about updates, but download them automatically, use the "Windows Genuine Advantage" tool without being noticed. This program checks the license key of the operating system and warns you if you are using a possibly illegal version.
How to disable Genuine Advantage in the registry
To get rid of this tool, first deactivate it in the registry.
- Open the registry editor and the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ WindowsNT \\ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ Notify".
- Then mark the subkey "WGALogon" and delete it.
- Next, confirm the security question with "Yes" and close the registry again.
Delete Windows Genuine Advantage files
In the next steps you have to rename and delete various files.
- Open the folder "C: \ Windows \ System32" in Windows Explorer.
- Rename the files "wgalogon.dll" and "wgatray.exe" by changing the file extension to ".alt".
- Now restart your computer.
- To do this, open a command line via "Start | Run" and the command "cmd".
- Enter Regsvr32% Windir% \ system32 \ LegitCheckControl.dll / u here and press Enter.
- Close the command line with the "exit" command and restart your computer.
Open the command line again. To delete the files in question, enter the following commands one after the other and confirm with the Enter key:
- del% Windir% \ system32 \ wgalogon.alt
- del% Windir% \ system32 \ WgaTray.alt
- del% Windir% \ system32 \ LegitCheckControl.dll
- Leave the command line with "exit".
Open the registry editor again and the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ WindowsNT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ Notify" again.
- Delete the "WGALogon" subkey that Windows has created again.
- Go to the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Uninstall" and delete the subkey "WGA".
- After closing the registry, you completely removed the tool.
Note:
If Windows wants to reinstall the tool, you do not agree to the license agreement to prevent the installation. You do not have to fear a functional impairment of the system.
