In order to gain a little more space on your hard disk, you can reduce the size of the hibernation file under Windows. You can read how this works in this practical tip.
Reduce the hibernation file under Windows
The hibernation file under Windows 7 and 8 can be reduced to half the installed RAM without problems and relatively quickly. To be able to carry out the action, however, you need admin rights.
- First click on the Windows start symbol and enter "cmd" in the input field.
- Then right-click on the "cmd" program and select the "Run as administrator" option.
- Enter the command "powercfg.exe -h -size 50" without quotes in the Windows terminal.
- If you are a little more experimental, you can also try to further reduce the size of the hibernation file in Regedit.exe.
- Under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Power" you will find the key "HiberFileSizePercent", which you can then assign a corresponding percentage value according to your requirements.
- Tip: However, you should not be overly high-spirited, otherwise you may find a blue screen with the error message "0xA0: INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR" after the next idle state of your computer.
