Open and use Windows Ink in Windows 10 - how it works
Windows Ink adds a useful feature to Windows 10. We show step by step how to open and use Windows Ink.
Windows 10: Open Windows Ink Workspace
Windows Ink mainly offers functions for the stylus on a Surface tablet. However, you can also use Windows Ink a little more comfortably with the mouse. The new feature will only appear in the summer of 2016 with the major anniversary update for Windows 10.
- If you right-click on the taskbar, the context menu opens.
- Select the "Show Windows Ink Workspace" option here.
- A pencil symbol now appears in the task bar at the bottom right. Click on the symbol with the mouse.
- The Windows Ink menu now opens on the right-hand side. Here you will find all available options.
Use Windows Ink on Windows 10
The three main functions of Windows Ink are the sticky notes, the sketch pad and the screen sketch. Windows Ink was primarily designed for devices with a touch display and an input pen, but it also works with the mouse.
- Brief notes: The Notes function of Windows 7 celebrates its comeback under Windows 10. However, the Notes cannot be moved individually on the screen, but are only available together in the overview. If you use Cortana, your notes will be scanned and, if necessary, converted into appointments and reminders.
- Sketch pad: The note function can also be used with the mouse and keyboard, but you should use a stylus for the sketch pad. Here you can create your sketches with all the colors you want. Straight lines can also be drawn with a ruler.
- Screen sketch: Similar to Microsoft Edge, you can now take a screenshot in all other programs and add notes and comments. You can share the screenshot via email, Twitter and Co.
- Apps: Windows Ink is gradually being integrated into other apps. In the map app you can already draw your own routes with Windows Ink.
