Open Windows console - how it works
You need the Windows console especially when your normal user interface does not work. Then you can use the command prompt to call up certain information or start programs, even if your system has problems. We show you how to open the saving console here.
Open console in Windows 7
In Windows 7 it is relatively easy to start the console. The start menu helps you above all.
- Go to the start menu. In Windows 7 you will find a search mask directly under the menu item "All Programs". Use this to search for "cmd.exe".
- Confirm the file found and the command prompt opens.
Start console in Win XP
Windows XP and the older versions of Windows do not have the search window. Therefore use the link in the start menu.
- Open the "Programs" item in the start menu.
- In the sub-item "Accessories" click on the entry "Command Prompt" and the console will be executed.
No matter whether Windows XP, 7, 8 or 10 - the solution for all systems
Shortcuts, so-called shortcuts, help you to load certain programs or commands in Windows. In the "Run" window, you can quickly launch executable files, such as the console.
- With the key combination Windows key + R "Execute" opens.
- Enter "cmd.exe" in this window and confirm with Enter. The console opens.
Run Windows console as administrator - once or permanently
For some commands you have to run the Windows console with admin rights. However, it doesn't hurt to open the console permanently as an administrator. We show you both variants here:
- To run the console once as an admin, search for "Command Prompt" in the start menu search field. Right click on the shortcut and select "Run as administrator".
- To start the command line permanently as an administrator, search for the "Command Prompt" again. Click the link with the right mouse button and select "Properties". Click on "Advanced" and check the option "Run as administrator". With a click on "Confirm" you open the console as admin.
