If you forgot the password for your Windows Live ID, it can be easily restored. However, if the Live ID itself is lost, you have to search for it yourself. We'll tell you which methods help.
Find Windows Live ID
- Open the page where you normally log in with your Live ID. For example, if this is Hotmail, your address is most likely still saved in the browser. Go to the website and click on the field for the Live ID. If you press the arrow key "down", your Live ID could be displayed there (see picture).
- If you used Windows Live Messenger and it is still installed on your computer, you could also find your email address there.
- If all of this does not help, ask friends or relatives to whom you have previously sent an email using Windows Live ID. You will definitely find it in their inbox, or even saved it as a contact on a computer or smartphone.
Reset Windows Live ID password
- Open the following link or click on the link "Can't access your account?"
- Enter your Windows Live ID above, the captcha below and click on the blue "Next" button.
- Now select whether you want to send the link to reset the password to the previously stored alternative email address or whether you want to solve the security question answered earlier. If you are currently unable to do any of these things, please see the "I can't use any of these options" link below. Open it and enter another email address that you can currently access.
- Depending on the option, you now go through a different procedure. With little effort, you should be able to reset your password afterwards.
