Set up Windows Live Mail 2012
If you chose Windows Live Mail 2012 as your new email program, you have to set it up first. We'll show you how it's done.
Set up an email account in Windows Live Mail 2012
- If you have not yet downloaded Windows Live Mail 2012, you can do so in our download area. Then open the installation file and follow the further instructions. You only need the "Mail" program, not the other offers.
- If the program is installed, the setup wizard opens automatically when it is started for the first time. If this is not the case, click on "Accounts" in the menu bar at the top and select the "E-Mail" item there.
- A new window opens in which you must first enter your email address and password for the email account. You should have this saved so that it does not have to be entered each time the program is started. Enter the name below which you would like to send your emails and click on "Next".
- If you've just set up a Microsoft account, your work is done. However, if you are asked to enter further data on the next page, you must also follow the next two steps.
- On the next page, select POP or IMAP as the server type. We explain the exact difference in this practical tip. You can find out the server address from your mail provider. At 1 & 1 this is for example "pop.1und1.de" or "imap.1und1.de". Check the box below the input field. Select your email address as the login user name.
- On the right side you have to enter a server address again. You can also find this out from your e-mail provider. Example: "smtp.1und1.de". Place the two ticks under the input field and click on the "Next" button. If all entries are complete and correct, you will receive a message about the successful setup. If you click the "Finish" button, your emails will be downloaded for the first time.
