When the mouse pointer disappears, the operation of Windows becomes exhausting. We'll show you how to find your pointer again.
Mouse cursor disappeared: the basics
The solution is often very simple, you should follow these steps first.
- Restart the computer. A restart often works wonders.
- Check that the mouse USB connector is loose. The mouse may not be active and the pointer may be off the screen.
- If necessary, switch on your touchpad on the laptop. To do this, press [Fn] and one of the F keys. You can tell which key you have to press by the symbol on the keys.
- If several monitors are connected, move the mouse to the left or right edge. Depending on the resolution, the mouse pointer can be lost quickly.
Mouse pointer disappeared: Check input device
Check whether the mouse is not working at all or only to a limited extent.
- Make sure your mouse is recognized by Windows. To do this, press the [Windows key] + [u] to access the Control Panel. Alternatively, you can access the control panel via the control panel. Press the [Windows key] + [r] and enter the command "shell: ControlPanelFolder". Confirm with [Enter].
- Navigate to the "Mouse" entry with [Tab] or the arrow keys. Confirm with [Enter].
- Press [Ctrl] + [Tab] to get to the "Hardware" tab.
- If you do not see a mouse even though you have connected an input device, it may be defective.
- When your mouse is displayed, press [Ctrl] + [Tab] again and navigate to the "Pointer" tab. You can now select a different pointer via [Tab] if your pointer has been changed to a transparent one.
