Integrate Windows media player in PowerPoint
You want to include videos in a PowerPoint presentation. However, some videos do not work properly. It is more reliable to integrate an object from the Windows media player instead. Advantage: You can then play the video within the presentation with the usual control of the media player.
Step 1: Select media player in the Powerpoint developer tools
While you are in the »Insert« tab with the command »Video | Video from file «can quickly integrate videos, the connection to the media player is not immediately ready and hidden deep in PowerPoint.
- First, show the Developer tab. To do this, select the command »File | Options ”and then the“ Customize Ribbon ”category. On the right side in the area »Main tabs« activate the checkbox »Developer tools« and confirm the dialog with »OK«.
- Now switch to the "Developer" tab and click on the "Additional controls" button in the "Controls" area (tool icon, see screenshot).
- In the following dialog, scroll all the way down to »Windows Media Player« and select it with »OK«.
Step 2: embed media player in ppt
- Now drag the desired area for the video display onto the slide with the left mouse button pressed. The inserted object can also be moved later and changed in size.
- Then right-click on the new object and select the context command »Properties«.
- Then click in the empty input field to the right of »URL«. Enter the path to the desired video file here or copy path details and file names, for example from Windows Explorer (see screenshot).
- Only file names are possible, provided the video is in the same folder as the presentation. This variant is recommended if you want to pass on the presentation. You also have to make sure to copy the video file as well, because it is not integrated into the PPTX file.
- During the presentation, video playback starts automatically when the slide in question is opened.
