Windows: Rename multiple files at the same time
If you want to rename several files under Windows, you can simply mark them and change the name for all of them at the same time. We'll show you exactly how to do it.
Rename multiple files in Windows at the same time
This is particularly useful if you have a large number of files that you want to number consecutively:
- First select the files that are to be numbered consecutively. To do this, just hold down the left mouse button and move over all the files you want. Alternatively, click on them individually while holding down the Ctrl key.
- The files are now highlighted in blue. Tap the F2 key on your keyboard to be able to rename the files. Enter the desired title here. "Sea" was used in the example.
- Press "Enter". Then all the marked files are given a consecutive numbering in brackets behind the entered title (here: Sea (1), Sea (2), etc.).
The practical tip refers to Windows 7. In other versions of Windows, this works analogously.
