Windows: End multiple processes at once
If your programs stop responding, you have to end processes manually. In Windows, you can even stop several services at once.
Terminate several Windows processes via CMD at once
You can use the command line to end several Windows processes with a single command. This is useful, for example, if programs such as OpenOffice or Google Chrome start multiple times without a window opening.
- First press the key combination [Windows] + [R] and enter the command "cmd" in the new window.
- The command line opens. With the command "taskkill / IM process name" you end all running processes with this name. You can also name several program names in succession.
- For example, if you want to end all OpenOffice processes, enter the command "taskkill / IM soffice.exe / IM soffice.bin". So Windows stops all processes with the names "soffice.exe" and "soffice.bin".
Find out process names using the task manager
If you do not know the exact process name, open the Task Manager with the key combination [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Esc].
- In the "Processes" tab you will find a list of all running programs with their names.
- By the way: In the Task Manager of Windows you can kill only one, but not several processes at once.
Of course, you can still terminate Windows programs that have crashed in the classic way. Another trick is to delete multiple tiles at once in Windows 8.
