Windows: Change network name - how it works
If you want to change the name of your network, this will involve more or less effort depending on the Windows version. In this practical tip, we will show you how to do it.
Change network name under Windows - how it works
- Open the Control Panel and select the "Network and Sharing Center" under the "Network and Internet" category. If you click on the house or office symbol next to the network, you can simply change the name here.
- Unfortunately, this is not possible under Windows 8 and 10. Here you also have to open the registry.
- Navigate to the path on the left "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ NetworkList \ Profiles".
- Find the value on the right with the name "ProfileName" and open it with a double click.
- Change the name and close the window with the "OK" button. After a restart, the network under Windows has a new name.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to start Windows 10 without a login.
