If you don't want to constantly click through hundreds of folders, you can mount the directories as a drive. In Windows, you can access your files directly from your workplace.
Windows: Mount folders as drives
Use the command prompt to integrate any folder in Windows. This works in all versions of the operating system.
- Press the key combination [Windows] + [R].
- In the Run dialog, enter "cmd" and confirm with "Ok".
- The command line opens. With the command "subst target drive folder name" you include your folder as a drive.
- Example: The command "subst Y:" C: \ Users \ username \ Downloads "" includes your download folder as drive Y. Pay attention to the quotes around the path of your folder.
- Enter "subst target drive / d" in the command line to remove the folder from the workstation. Alternatively, you can restart your computer.
Mount folder automatically when Windows starts
With the command prompt described above, you can only temporarily integrate your folders: As soon as you restart the PC, the drives disappear from the workstation. With a little trick you can mount them at system start:
- Start the editor in Windows and enter your individual mount command.
- Save the file as "Mount.bat" on your computer.
- Then push this file into the autostart. To do this, open the start menu and drag the BAT file under "All Programs" into the "Autostart" folder.
