Windows Phone: Update hangs / takes forever - that helps
For security reasons, you should always install updates for your Windows Phone. However, if that takes forever or hangs, you may not have enough free space on your smartphone. In this practical tip, we will tell you what you can do in this case and how you can fix possible further problems.
Windows Phone Update hangs / takes forever: You can do that
You can quickly get your Windows Phone back up and running with the following troubleshooting tips:
- First of all, of course, you should make sure that you have enough free space on the device. This is the only way to carry out the update. If necessary, delete old downloads or media that are not required.
- We also recommend connecting the mobile phone to the power during the download or installation. Otherwise the update could be interrupted.
- Often an update cannot be installed because the system time is set incorrectly. So pay attention to the correct time or have it updated automatically.
- Your Windows Phone must be connected to the Internet during the entire update process. We recommend using a WiFi connection due to the large amount of data.
- If the update is carried out via PC, you should make sure that the USB cable is intact. Check the cable for damage and exclude loose contacts at the ends. Alternatively, try a different USB port or a different USB cable.
- If it times out, clearing your browser history, maps, and search history can help. To do this, open the "Settings" and tap on "Internet Explorer". Then choose "Clear History"> "Clear". Repeat this step for "Maps" and "Search".
If you are unsuccessful with these instructions, we will show you in the next practical tip how you can reset the Windows Phone.
