Windows: Turn off problem and error reports
The Windows Control Panel can be used to switch off problem and error reports that are sent to Microsoft after a crash. To do this, first deactivate the function itself and then the service responsible, which additionally slows down the system performance. You can find out how to do this here.
Windows 7: Turn off problem reports
- In Windows 7, click on "System and Security" in the Control Panel and then on "Maintenance Center". Now follow the link "Change maintenance center settings" and then "Settings for problem reporting". Select the "Never look for solutions" option. Confirm the dialogs with »OK«.
- If you want to switch off the service permanently, open the Windows Start menu and type "services.msc" in the search field. Now double click on the entry “Windows Error Reporting Service”. In the »General« tab, change the start type to »Deactivated« and confirm this with »Apply« and »OK«.
Windows XP: Disable error reporting
- In Windows XP, double-click the "System" icon in the Control Panel. Go to the "Advanced" tab and click on "Error Reporting" below. Select the "Deactivate error reporting" option there. You also have to remove the check mark in the "Notify me of critical errors" check box. After clicking on »OK« the function is switched off.
- To deactivate the relevant service under XP, double-click on "Administrative Tools" in the Control Panel and then double-click on "Services". Find the "Error Reporting Service" entry and double-click its entry. In the »General« tab, change the start type to »Deactivated«. Then confirm this with »Apply« and »OK« and close all dialogs.
