If you make changes to the Windows registry, you should save them so that you can restore them in the event of a problem. We'll show you how.
Back up and restore the Windows registry
- Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "regedit" there and click "OK".
- You may have to answer a subsequent security question with "Yes". The registry editor now opens.
- Click on the "Computer" in the top left corner of the navigation bar and right-click on it. In the context menu, select the "Export" item (see picture).
- A new window opens in which you can select a storage location and a name for the file. If you then click the "Save" button, this registry is saved.
- To restore it, you just have to open the file with a double click and confirm the query with "Yes". After a restart, the registry is restored.
Beginners in particular should be careful in the registry. With the free CCleaner, your registry is scanned for unnecessary entries and then cleaned up.
