Windows: Change the default font - how it works
In Windows 7 you can change the default font of different areas of your operating system. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible in Windows 8 and 10. However, you can also change the font size here.
On Windows 7: Change the default font
- Go to Start in the bottom left and then to "Control Panel".
- Type "window color" in the upper right corner of the Control Panel search box.
- Click "Change window colors and metrics".
- Under "Element" click on the area for which you want to change the font, eg "Menu"
- Under "Font" you can select your desired standard font for this area.
- Save the change with "OK".
Cannot change font in Windows 8 and Windows 10
In Windows 8 and Windows 10, you can only set the font size and the "bold" font.
- In the "Control Panel" go to "Appearance and Personalization".
- There, click on "Display".
- At this point you can now change the font size using the drop-down menu. You can also set the font as "bold".
- You could try to change the fonts in Windows 8 and Windows 10 through the registry, but we do not recommend it due to possible system problems.
