Disable Windows Start Manager
By deactivating the Windows Start Manager, you skip the operating system selection when the computer starts. This is always called, for example, if you install a version of Windows 7 via a Windows XP installation without properly removing the old OS. We will show you how to calm the start manager.
This is how the Windows Start Manager can be deactivated
Deactivate the Start Manager in the system settings of Windows:
- Call up the start menu at the bottom left using the Windows symbol. Click on "System Settings".
- Select "System" here. On the next page, click on "Advanced system settings".
- In the newly opened window, select the "Settings ..." button under "Start and restore".
- Remove the check mark in front of "Display time of the operating system bar" to completely deactivate the Windows Start Manager (see screenshot). Alternatively, you can leave the option deactivated and only reduce the time behind it, for example to five seconds. Finally click on "OK". You can now close all other system settings windows.
- If you have deactivated the Windows Start Manager, you can start it manually when you start the computer by pressing the "F8" key at startup.
The instructions refer to a system with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Under Windows Vista, the individual menu items may be named slightly differently.
