Windows: switch off touchpad automatically - is that possible?
You can switch off the touchpad automatically under Windows, but this does not work with all laptops. We'll show you how it's done.
Windows: Switch off touchpad automatically
When you connect a mouse to your laptop, the touchpad is unnecessary. In this case, Windows has installed a function. However, this is not available for all laptops and touchpads.
- Open the Control Panel and look for "Mouse" in the top right corner.
- If you then click on the "Mouse" category, a small window opens with the settings.
- Go to the "Device Settings" tab and activate, if available, the option "Deactivate the internal pointing device if a USB pointing device is connected".
- Use the "OK" button to save your setting.
- Tip: You can also switch off the touchpad manually using a key combination. For this you need the "Fn" key and one of the "F" keys - which depends on your laptop model.
We will show you in the next practical tip how you can consciously deactivate the touchpad.
