Windows Update: Error 0x800f081e - How to fix the error
The error occurs when Windows wants to install an update but does not have all the necessary update files.
- To fix the error, type "cmd" in the Windows search bar, right click on the command prompt and select "Run as administrator".
- Now enter the commands " net stop wuauserv", " net stop bits" and " net stop cryptsvc".
- Then rename the directory "SoftwareDistribution" with " ren c: \ windows \ SoftwareDistribution c: \ windows \ SoftwareDistribution.OLD". Windows will download the data again the next time you try to install an update, including the missing update files.
- Finally, start the services again with " net start cryptsvc", " net start bits" and " net start wuauserv". You should now be able to install the update without any problems.
