If you have deactivated the automatic installation of updates under Windows, you have to install updates manually. You have to do this differently for each version of the operating system. We explain it to you for all editions since Windows XP.
Windows 10: install updates
- Open the start menu and select the item "Settings".
- Under the category "Update and Security" you will find the item "Windows Update".
- Click here on the button "Check for updates" and wait a moment.
- The updates are then downloaded and installed using the "Install Now" button.
- Note: Major updates require a restart. Windows plans this automatically, but you can also restart your system directly.
Windows 8: Install updates
- Click the Windows button in the lower left corner to go to the start screen.
- Simply type "Update" here, the search opens on the right.
- If you select the search result "Windows Update", the function opens in a new window.
- Click on the "Check for updates" option on the left, select the desired updates and click on the "Install" button.
Windows 7 and Vista: Install updates
- Click on the Windows logo in the lower left corner to open the Start menu.
- Select the "Control Panel" on the right side.
- Under the category "System" or "System and Security" you will find "Windows Update".
- Click the "Check for updates" option on the left, select the updates you want and click the "Install updates" button.
Windows XP: Install updates
- Click the "Start" button at the bottom left so that the Start menu opens.
- Select the "Control Panel" on the right side.
- On the left you will see the item "Windows Update" in the navigation bar.
- Here you can now search for new updates and install them.
