The most important commands for the Windows command line
The following commands can make your work with Windows considerably easier. First search for "cmd" and start the "Command Prompt".
- If you are looking for more information about a command, type "help" followed by the command you want.
- With "whoami" you can find out the name of the PC and your user name.
- "path" shows directories in which files can be stored that you can start directly from the command line.
- You can use the "ping" command to check your internet connection. For example, enter "ping [your IP]" or "ping [www.gewünschte-website.de". If you are connected to the Internet, you should be able to send and receive packets.
- With "shutdown -s -t [seconds]" you can shutdown the PC. Instead of [seconds] you can set the shutdown after a certain time. With "shutdown -s -t 1800" the PC will shut down automatically in 30 minutes.
- With "tasklist" you can display all running processes including their process number (PID). With "taskkill / pid [process number]" you can end individual processes.
