Windows: delete recovery points - how it works
By deleting Windows restore points, you gain some space. Since the backups are also important, we will show you which ones you can safely delete.
Delete recovery points on Windows
- Open the start menu and type "Disk Cleanup" in the search field. Then start the program of the same name.
- Disk Cleanup now scans your PC for error dumps, temporary files, and more. You may need to specify the drive you want to examine beforehand. In most cases this corresponds to the letter "C:". After the scan is finished, a program opens (see screenshot).
- Click here on the second tab "More options". There you will find the heading "System Restore and Shadow Copies". Here you click on "Clean up" and confirm the next query with "Delete".
- Now all you have to do is close the disk cleanup with the "OK" button and start the process with "Delete files". How to remove all but the last restore point.
We also tell you how you can backup your entire Windows 7 system with on-board equipment.
