Delete Windows WLAN profiles: Here's how
With Windows problems with the network, it often helps to delete the existing WLAN profiles. We show you how it works here.
Delete WLAN profiles in Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Run" window opens.
- Enter "cmd" in the input field and click "OK". Now a black window opens.
- Enter "netsh wlan show profiles" into this and press "Enter".
- You will receive a list of all networks with which your computer has already been connected (see picture).
- Now enter "netsh wlan delete profile name =" XXX "" in the text field. In this case the characters XXX stand for the name of the network which you have read out before and now want to delete.
- If you press "Enter" again, the WLAN profile will be deleted. Now run the query "netsh wlan show profiles" again if the deleted profile is no longer displayed.
- Note: To avoid possible deletion problems, you should disconnect current WiFi connections.
Windows 10: delete WiFi profiles
Note: The above instructions also work under Windows 10. This alternative instructions for the latest Microsoft operating system is a bit simpler.
- Open the start menu under Windows 10 and select the "Settings".
- Under the category "Network and Internet" you switch to WLAN on the left.
- If necessary, scroll down a little and click on the "Manage WLAN settings" item.
- At the bottom you will find all known networks. Select the one you want and click the "Do not save" button.
- All information about this WLAN profile will be deleted. You can then reconnect.
