Windows XP: Create a restricted user account
Support for Windows XP expired on April 8th, 2014. Create a restricted user account and surf on your Windows XP system. You then have no admin rights and cannot install programs, for example, but viruses and malware that get to your PC through security holes cannot do much damage.
Create a restricted user account under Windows XP
- Click on the "Start" icon at the bottom left, then select the "Control Panel" and go to the "User Accounts".
- In the "User Accounts" view click on "Create new account".
- Enter a name for your user account at this point and confirm with "Next".
- Select the "Limited" option as the account type and create the account using "Create account".
- You will be automatically redirected to the account view. Now click on your newly created, restricted account and select "Create password".
- Enter a password and save again with "Create password".
- Go to Start again and select "Logout".
- Now decide on "Change user" and log in with the new, restricted user account.
