Windows XP, Vista: Quickly scale any window using drag-and-drop
Since Windows 7, windows can be scaled quickly using drag-and-drop. We will show you how you can also use older Windows systems to change your window size with simple mouse movements.
Scaling Windows windows with AeroSnap
The freeware AeroSnap enables the practical control of open windows as in Windows 7, even in older versions.
- A prerequisite is an installed .NET Framework 2.0.
- Here you can download the AeroSnap tool. The setup of the tool offers the language "German" - but this only applies to the installation, the program itself uses English dialogs.
- Before using it, you should change some options. To do this, right-click on the new icon in the task bar and start the "Options" command.
- Select the "General" category on the left.
- There you deactivate "Show splash screen on startup" and activate "Autostart AeroSnap with Windows".
- You should not activate the "Remove AeroSnap from tray area" option, otherwise the settings dialog can only be accessed via the key combination [Windows] and [A].
- You can also define an additional key as a hotkey under the "Snapping" category, which must be pressed for the AeroSnap function.
- Confirm the settings with "OK".
AeroSnap - How to use the useful scaling tool
- To customize a window, click on its title bar and drag it to the edge of the screen with the mouse button pressed.
- When released, the window automatically jumps to half the image size on the right and left side and to full image size at the top.
- The previous size setting remains saved and can be restored by simply clicking on the title bar. However, this only works if the window was not previously maximized.
If you already have Windows 7 and would like to deactivate AeroSnap, we will show you in this practical tip how it works.
