WinRAR: Compress files - how it works
How to compress files with WinRAR can be found in this manual.
Compress files with WinRAR
- Open the folder in Explorer in which the files to be compressed are located. Select this and then right-click on one of the files. Select "Add to archive" in the menu.
- Under the "General" tab you will find the "Compression method" option. For the most effective compression, select "best" here (see picture). Depending on the package size, this compression method can take a long time.
- Enter an archive name and confirm with "OK". However, please note that the extent to which the compression is successful depends primarily on the file types in the archive.
- To adjust the default compression settings, open WinRAR and click Options. Then select "Settings" and "Compression". Here you can set the standard for all future archives. (By the way: You can also set a default folder for extracted files in WinRAR.)
