Wire vs. WhatsApp - Messenger in comparison
With the messenger app Wire, a new competitor for WhatsApp appears. We show you how the services in the Duel Wire vs. Beat WhatsApp.
- Features: Wire actually has all the functions that a messenger should have, but is comparatively minimalist. The app brings messages, videos, pictures, group chats and much more. Even phone calls and soon also video calls are possible here. Comparatively little can be specified in the settings, however. By "pinging" contacts can be "poked" like on Facebook.
- Operation: If you haven't just put your smartphone in the cradle, you will initially have problems with wire. The operation is mainly characterized by swiping in different directions. Useful, but rather unusual. After a few minutes, however, you will get used to it.
- Security: Wire only encrypts the calls with secure end-to-end encryption. The messages are encrypted with a lower standard.
- Platforms: Wire's service is available on Android and iOS as well as Mac OS X. You can now also use Wire in a browser version.
- Cost: All Wire applications are completely free.
WhatsApp - the standard messenger
- Range of functions: You will also find almost all the functions that Wire offers in WhatsApp. In the settings you will also find various settings with which the chat app can be adjusted. Calls are currently not possible in WhatsApp, but are planned.
- Operation: The operation of WhatsApp is child's play compared to Wire. You can see all categories at a glance, the settings are collected separately in one section.
- Security: Security was repeatedly criticized at WhatsApp. In November 2014, the service announced that it would soon introduce secure end-to-end encryption.
- Platforms: WhatsApp is available for almost all smartphones. These include the systems Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Nokia and Blackberry. WhatsApp has also recently become available in a browser version.
- Costs: Only those who already used WhatsApp on iOS before mid-2013 can use the service for free for life. If the first year has ended, you pay 89 cents for each additional year.
