Witcher 3 levels of difficulty: That changes
In this article, we'll show you what changes in the levels of difficulty in The Witcher 3. You can fight your way through the world of The Witcher 3 in four different levels of difficulty. Depending on the degree, the type of healing, the strength of your spells or the strength of your attacks change, for example. We have created an overview for every level of difficulty.
Difficulty level 1: simply the story
Here you can experience history without heavy battles. Your life energy regenerates itself with every meditation and thus considerably simplifies the planning of your adventure.
- Your attacks and spells do a lot more damage. This makes fighting much easier and more relaxed. You can even do without potions or magic here. Hau-Drauf works wonderfully!
- Geralt's life energy will recover every time you meditate.
Difficulty level 2: the sword and the story
This is the average level of difficulty for The Witcher 3. The fights are getting a bit more demanding, but not much either.
- Here you can continue to simply hit the sword and do not have to perform complex evasive maneuvers to stay alive. However, you should already use magic. Potions cannot hurt, just to restore your life energy during battles should you have them ready.
- The life energy is still restored through any meditation. Geralt's damage values are artificially increased even at this level.
Difficulty level 3: blood, sweat and tears
This degree is a lot crisper. Fights are exhausting, for the bosses you sometimes have to plan ahead. Always try to have all your potions full.
- In battles, you definitely have to master evasion and blocking. Don't let enemy groups surround you, as it can quickly mean screen death. Use the standard potions for slightly heavier opponents and the more sophisticated bombs and potions for bosses. Magic is a must, especially with magical opponents there is not much possible without Yrden.
- Meditation no longer heals your life energy! So stock up on proper watering and eating to keep fit.
Difficulty level 4: death march
Now it's time to get down to business. This level of difficulty has driven many to despair. The fights are crazy hard and you have to use every trick to get through here.
- The fights are really hard and are constantly challenging. You should master the controls blindly and use every potion, bomb and arrow that comes in your way. Regular inventory management is mandatory!
- Of course, life energy does not recover on its own, you also have to use potions and food here. Geralt's damage values are not increased, but the opponent's is massive!
The Witcher 3: enemy scaling
A common criticism of The Witcher 3: opponents have a fixed level that does not move with that of the player. After the latest update, there is an option in the gameplay settings to scale up the adversary to your level.
- If you did a quest later than the game intended, enemies were often too easy due to their low level - regardless of the difficulty level. With adversary scaling, such adversaries are automatically brought to a higher level to offer you a challenge again.
- The opponent scaling does not work in the other direction, mind you. Enemies from quests that are actually too high for your level are not downgraded.
- Depending on your level and the quests and regions you are going through, this setting has an even greater impact on the level of challenge than the level of difficulty.
- Opponent scaling can be switched on and off at any time. The attitude has an immediate effect on the level of the adversary.
